Uckfield road safety day cancelled

Uckfield’s road safety day for children next Thursday (June 21) has been cancelled because of the soggy state of the Luxford Field.

With more rain forecast for the next few days, the decision was taken to call-off the event because of fears large vehicles would churn up the grass surface.

Around five to six hundred primary school children were due to attend.

Town councillor Jim Moleswoth-Edwards, in his ninth year as organiser, said: “It is terribly disappointing. If we could have guaranteed nice hot weather between now and then we would have been all right but the forecast is bad.

“We just could not chance it and we have had to make an early decision so we can tell everyone involved.”
