Uckfield Lions have taken delivery of their new mini-bus and it was admired at a celebratory event yesterday by invited guests and users.
There was a glass of bubbly to mark the occasion and among those attending were Uckfield Mayor Cllr Louise Eastwood, Uckfield Rotary president Roger Linthwaite and mini-bus users from Millington Court, Thornbury Lodge, Framfield and Blackboys Monday Club and the Phab Club.
All were said to be impressed by how easy it was to remove seats to provide space for wheelchairs, the new tail lift and the overall look of the bus.
Lions’ president Frank Phillips said that without donations from numerous members of the community, Suxxes Masons Saxon Weald, and a grant from the Department of Transport, replacing the bus would still be a pipe dream and the Lions were grateful for all the support they had received.
The bus can be used by members of the local community. Drivers need to have a Cat 4 on their driving licence and are subject to terms and conditions set out by the Lions Club.
The cost is £1 a mile with a minimum of £15. The Lions can provide a driver if required, subject to availability. There is seating for 14 people, but this will be reduced if wheelchairs are carried.
Thanks to the Lions Club for these pictures.
