Uckfield Lion wins humanitarian award

A humanitarian award has been presented to David Skinner, a member of Uckfield Lions Club.

The Bert Mason Humanitarian Award recognises his work in primary and secondary schools to inform children of the risks around alcohol, drugs, sexual health, and smoking.

The citation reads: “Lion David has shown exceptional dedication over the many years, not only in the promotion and encouraging adoption of respective programmes but in seeking innovative ways by which Lions may engage with young people to promote health and wellbeing.”

He initially worked with The Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Education to promote the health of children and young people, and when that charity was liquidated joined the newly formed Lions Lifeskills.

Most recently, the citation says, David has been the key link between Lions Lifeskills and the Healthy Schools London project, a programme that is being adopted by a growing number of other local authorities around the country.

The citation says: “Lion David has comprehensive knowledge of the subject, remarkable enthusiasm, and determination, in promotion the programme over many years.

“It is for these reasons that the trustees of Lions MD105 Lifeskills Ltd have chosen to recognise Lion David with a Bert Mason Humanitarian Award.”
