Uckfield High Street boutique Joli Couture, and a tanning studio above, are to close.
Owner Kay Bevan says she is taking advantage of a five-year break in a ten year lease and the shop and tanning studio will close in May with the lease being surrendered in June.
A sale is currently under way and that will turn into a clearance event towards the end of February.
Kay says new spring lines will be arriving to keep stock fresh.
Best year yet
She said the shop has just had its best year yet and she was originally undecided about whether to surrender the lease but when pressed to make her mind up decided to close the business.
Kay said: “This was probably the hardest decision I have ever had to make, especially when the shop was doing so well. We have got some wonderful customers. I like the products we sell and I wanted to bring something different to Uckfield.
“But I am the wrong side of 50 now, feeling my age and basically I don’t think I could do another five years.”
The hours Kay worked in the run-up to Christmas, cleaning and re-stocking the shop at night, which took until the early hours and until 4am or 5am on some occasions made her think seriously about the future.
Kay said some people still had tanning hours owed to them and others had vouchers to spend in the shop and she asked them people use the hours and spend the vouchers before May.
Kay added she was very sad to close the business.
A notice in her shop said: “We would like to thank all our loyal customers for their continued support over the last five years. Our business would not have thrived as it has if it wasn’t for your valued custom.”
