Uckfield councillors' message to water company

South East Water must stop water leaking from pipes as a “matter of urgency”.

This is one of the comments Uckfield Town Council is making to the water company, which is consulting on measures to tackle the water crisis.

Members of the environment and leisure committee were told that SE Water was required to prepare a “drought plan” to explain the measure it would take under drought conditions to ensure a continued supply of water to customers.

Other comments include warning the company that water taken from rivers and streams must never endanger the riverine ecology.

• The AGM of Hempstead Meadows Local Nature Reserve will take place on June 28 (7.30pm) at the civic centre. Consideration is to be given to providing a board walk in boggy areas behind Roman Way.

• A budget of £6,000 is to be provided to fund entertainment events at the civic centre. Under consideration are a Christmas pantomime, a children’s fun day, an evening of clairvoyance with Tony Stockwell and ‘Show of Hands’, an acoustic and folk duo. Three events last year were all profitable.
