Author Jenny McLachlan cuts the ribbon to officially open the new reading room at UCTC

Uckfield college reading room officially opened

Uckfield Community Technology College’s new reading room has been officially opened.

The room has been in use for a term, helping improve students’ literacy skills.

Cutting the ribbon was the college’s own Jenny McLachlan, whose first book Flirty Dancing was published last year by Bloomsbury with whom she has a  four-book deal.

The college also announced the winners of a term-long design competition.

Overall winner of the Reading Room design competition was Marvella Horthy from 7N who produced a 3D Model that was full of ideas and inspiration.

Designs and design ideas from Izzy Sutton Smith 8D, Elizabeth Robinson 8M, Kiera Radloff 7N, Gemma Downing 7C, Molly Shorter 7M and Georgia Whitton 8U were all highly commended and runners up were Georgia Wilce 8K, Emily Sweet 8D, Ben Williams 7D, Toby Whales 7D, Maisie Morey 8N, Ayla Jones 7M, Jess Molesworth 7C and Heidi Lane 8I.
