Uckfield bookkeepers Claire Packham and Jo Carpenter ran 10k as part of a team which raised nearly £3000 for charity.
Claire, director of Team 4 Solutions, based in Mill Lane, is a trustee for Children of Peace which aims to build relationships between Israeli and Palestinian children so that future generations can live in peace together.
She and Jo, who joined Team 4 as a trainee bookkeeper six months ago, undertook the challenge in London.
Jo had been dipping in and out of running for a few years and ran the Race for Life a few times.
She had her own health scare a couple of months ago and was spurred on to take better care of herself healthwise.
She said training for a race was a good way to focus and running the 10k in aid of a good cause gave her a reason to stick to a training plan and to push herself.
Jo was born and raised in London and so running around the city’s landmarks gave her extra motivation.
Claire too said she had done a bit of running in fits and starts over the years to try and keep fit but had never been a distance runner or competitive in any way.
She ran the London 10k four years ago and said that was quite an achievement for her at the time and she hadn’t done anything like it since.
But at the beginning of this year Claire decided to set herself some challenges, one of which was to enter a triathlon. This meant she had to learn to swim and significantly increase her fitness levels.
Joining the Children of Peace running team meant she could raise funds for the charity and also have an interim goal towards her triathlon training.
• The money raised by Children of Peace will help bring children of different religions and cultures together to build relationships. Last year, for example, the charity raised funds for the Seaside Project and took a group of 60 unwell, and disadvantaged Palestinian children for a day trip by the sea in Israel.
