Uckfield-based Green DIY is looking to open new stores

Uckfield-based Green DIY is planning to open new stores in the South East of England.

Quality products coupled with the right service for local people is proving a winning combination for the business and, with a smaller version of the Uckfield store proving successful in Leigh-on-Sea – a bit like a Green DIY Express – the owners, The Private DIY Company, would like to have three or four more.

Brand manager Robin Eden told Uckfield News: “We have taken the best sellers, the best ranges, from Uckfield and duplicated them over there and that is working really well for us.”

Boots through the door

The time is right because quite a few of the big DIY chains, such as Homebase and B&Q, are closing branches and selling more online.

Robin said: “We don’t sell online. We are all about boots through the door, trying to get the right mix of products and quality service.”

He added: “We like to help people who are looking for advice so that they go out with everything they need but nothing they don’t need.

We want to provide knowledge

“We are not just about selling. We want to provide people with some knowledge. Quite often they are trying to solve a problem at home and having somewhere you can go to get professional information, be pointed in the right direction, takes a burden off you.

“A lot of our staff are older and ex-trades, all very experienced, and between us we can cover most situations.

“It’s great when a customer comes in looking for information and we are able to help them out. It gives us a bit of a boost too. We are not trying to sell things for the sake of it. We want you to go away with what you need.”

Fishing tackle

New at Green DIY in Uckfield is Hooked on Green, a fishing tackle shop aimed at providing the local angler with a wide range of quality fishing equipment and bait.

Robin is a keen fisherman himself and says the aim is to suit all budgets and passions, whether you are a year-round hardcore carp, coarse or match angler, or a more relaxed fair weather fisherman or fisherwoman.

He said: “We have something to tick all boxes selling leading brands such as Nash, Drennan, ESP, Kodex, Middy, Solar, Ridge Monkey and many more backed up by experience staff with a wealth of knowledge and great customer service.”
