he platform at Uckfield will be extended by about 48m

Uckfield and Buxted trains suspended until February 19

Rail passengers from Uckfield face no trains from today (January 4) until February 19.

The line between the town and Crowborough is closed for two pieces of major engineering work, writes our transport correspondent, Paul Watson.

One is the extension of the platform at Uckfield to accommodate longer trains and the other is to improve drainage in the Crowborough tunnel.

During these works a rail replacement bus service will take passengers to Crowborough from both Uckfield and Buxted, and the return. The buses will link with departures and arrivals at Crowborough.

After this work is completed, there will be one week of normality over the half-term holiday before the line will be closed off-peak between February 29 and March 24 to complete the extensions to platforms at all stations on the line to Hurst Green.
