It was Jamie Bedwell’s cycling talent that took him through the field in a super series triathlon at Strathclyde at the weekend.
The Uckfield athlete came out of the water with the last quarter of the field then rode the whole bike section solo, passing all riders at the back, riding up to the third pack, passing the third pack and continuing to make up time on the second pack, still on his own.
Jamie said after the race: “After pushing so hard on the bike I maintained my position on the run with many quality runners behind.
He added: “In my overall development and journey this is another big step. I know that my swim is still weak in comparison but I have one of the best support and coaching teams in the world and the belief that I can get there.”
Jamie, who has recently moved to Eastbourne from his family home on the Harlands Estate, Uckfield, remembered that three years ago he took part in his first super series triathlon. He was three minutes back on the last swimmer and finished last in the race.
Jamie will be taking part in south east regional trials next weekend and will then go into a few weeks of light training to let his body recover after a long hard season before beginning the hard work again to prepare for next year.
Jamie is also due to start at Brighton University on September 28 where he will be studying podiatry.
