Possible alternatives for travellers
Brighton and Hove Buses will accept rail tickets for any “reasonable” journey across its network.
Compass Travel on route 31 (Uckfield to Haywards Heath) will accept rail tickets. No buses after 6pm. Thameslink calls at Haywards Heath and is unaffected by the strike, although services are expected to be very busy.
Gatwick Express services will run from 5am to 10pm between the airport and London Victoria. Southern tickets can be used.
Uckfield and Buxted passengers will also find ticket acceptance in place by South Eastern on the Hastings Line at Tunbridge Wells.
Southern is in dispute with both ASLEF and the RMT unions over the introduction of driver-only operation.
