School needs help to repair pot holes

Efforts are being made to collect funds to repair pot holes in the lane leading to the Victoria Pleasure Ground in Uckfield.

St Philip’s School has offered £500 towards the £1,000 cost of work at Old Timbers Lane and asked the town council if it would be prepared to give the remainder.

There is no known owner of the lane and on two previous occasions the town council has instigated the collection of contributions from users to carry out work there.

This time the school has already asked others for help, including the cricket and football clubs, but without success.

A report to the council’s environment and leisure committee, which will consider the request when it meets on Tuesday, says the land has deteriorated badly over the last few years and in one particular area is almost impassable.
