POTHOLES: County council to be challenged on state of Uckfield roads

The state of Uckfield roads and the potholes will be high on the agenda when town councillors meet the local authority responsible for their upkeep – East Sussex County Council.

A formal meeting is set for July 1 – they happen on a regular basis under the heading of “strengthening local relationships”.

Town councillors were asked on Monday what they wanted on the agenda and roads was the big topic; both in the town and on other roads in the vicinity, including the A26.

Sites mentioned by councillors included Harcourt Road, Downsview Crescent and Southview Drive.

However, there was widespread agreement that the problem extended throughout the town.

Councillors will also ask that roads and kerbs near to the construction of the new Uckfield College on the Manor Park Estate are monitored to ensure any damage caused by heavy vehicles going to and from the site is put right.

The discussion took place at a meeting of the council’s environment and leisure committee.
