Popular Uckfield lifestyle and interiors store Saffron and Sycamore is to close its New Town premises at the end of January.
The business will continue running via a website which is due to be launched in the New Year and the owners hope to find new premises in town. During January there will be a clearance sale.
Adele Tratham who, with her husband Ollie, owns Saffron and Sycamore, and the magazine Magnet, said on the store’s Facebook page that they were extremely disappointed to be leaving the premises.
In July they were given six months notice but negotiated to stay another 12-18 months to give them time to move both businesses. More recently they have discovered the rent for the additional period would rise by more than 50 per cent.
Adele said on Facebook: “We cannot justify this and it potentially jeopardises both businesses so we have decided we have no alternative but to leave.”
Notice to quit the premises followed planning approval for the premises at 70 New Town, to be turned into residential accommodation. See a previous Uckfield News story here.
Adele said: “We would like to thank all of our wonderful customers for all the amazing support we have enjoyed over the last few years.
“We appreciate each and every one of you and would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will, of course, let you know of any developments in the future for Saffron and Sycamore.”
• Magnet magazine will re-locate back to the couple’s home office to that business will be unaffected by closure of the New Town premises.
