Update on Thursday, July 6: Metropolitan Police had told local detectives there was cause for concern about a woman found dead at a house in Field End, Maresfield, yesterday.
The woman, believed to be in her 40s was found by the police yesterday at 7.30am.
A 50-year-old man, believed to be known to her was stopped by police at 8am yesterday on the A22 at Ashurst Wood, near East Grinstead.
The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains is in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Heater, of the Major Crime Branch, said: “We believe we know who the woman is but she has not been formally identified.
“Family liaison offiers are in contact with family of the woman whom we believe the deceased to be, but further family are still to be notified.
“Tragically, we discovered the woman’s body at the house at 7.30am on Thursday, after being alerted by the Metropolitan Police regarding a cause for concern for the woman occupant of the address.”
The detective chief inspector said they were carrying out extensive enquiries as part of their investigation.

Original story on Thursday, July 5: Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after emergency services found the body of a woman at a property in Field End, Maresfield, this morning.
The body was found at 7.30am. The 50-year-old man remains in custody.
Police say no further information is available at this time.
