Police park marked car in Uckfield to prevent ‘serious violent offence’

Police said a marked police car was parked in Uckfield High Street yesterday as part of an operation to prevent a “serious violent offence” taking place.

During the afternoon an 18-year-old man was arrested in Brighton on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, and was in custody for interview and further enquiries.

A police spokesperson said no actual robbery took place and there was no violence or injury. They had acted to prevent a potential planned robbery of business premises.

Several other people were being interviewed yesterday as witnesses.

The car was removed during the afternoon.

Uckfield Chamber of Commerce president Chris Lawson said he spotted the parked police car at about 10.30am in the vicinity of Millets and it was still there just after 3pm.
