Police called to fights in Uckfield

Police received several calls to reports of fights, disturbances and assaults in Uckfield on Friday night (January 2) and to another fight on Saturday afternoon.

The first call came in at 10.22pm on Friday reporting a fight in Manor Close and this was followed by calls to The Drive and Manor Way. Police sign

Three men, aged 46, 20 and 19 were attacked at different times and locations, two requiring treatment at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, for facial and hand injuries.

A male police officer was assaulted as he approached a man in Manor Way.

A 23-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of two counts of wounding with intent, assaulting a police officer and assault by beating. He was questioned and later bailed until February 17.

Fight outside Waitrose

On Saturday afternoon (January 3) a man was arrested on suspicion of assault following a fight with another man in Uckfield.

Police were called to the scene in the High Street at 4.53pm where the two men had been seen fighting outside Waitrose. One had gone into the store, the other was being attended to by passers-by outside.

A 40-year-old man from Uckfield later accepted a ‘simple caution’ for common assault and was released.
