Plea for Uckfield signs to recognise twinning link with French town

There was a plea last night from Uckfield Twinning Association for signs to go up in town recognising a link with the French town of Arque la Bataille.welcome_to_Uckfield_sign

Association chairman Dave Sudbery told members of the town council’s environment and leisure committee that people from the twin town would be visiting this weekend and there was nothing on signs to mention the French connection.

He said this matter came to a head when someone on social media mentioned seeing Uckfield on a sign in Arque.

He told councillors the link with Arque was well established. Primary school children visited there regularly, there were youth camps and Uckfield Concert Brass visited too.

When the committee discussed the matter later Cllr Ian Smith, Independent, Ridgewood, said this was something that had been on a wish list for a long time but advice from the county council was that a new sign couldn’t just be tacked on to access point signs around town.

All the signs would have to be done again. “We have got to find a way through this,” he said.
