The aim is to build the single-storey extension on to an existing lobby, reception office and SEN room.

The decision was delegated to Wealden District Council officers who said it would not have an adverse impact on visual or residential amenity and therefore complies with local and national policies.

Updated on December 1, 2017: An Uckfield primary school has won support from the town council for its plan to improve the entrance to its premises in New Town.

The council’s plans committee has formally told the planning authority, Wealden District Council, that it would like to see the scheme at St Philip’s go ahead.

Cllr Chris Macve, Trust Independent, Uckfield North, said it was good to see that the school was thriving sufficiently to spend the money on the scheme.

The committee met on Monday (December 18) evening.

The chairman, Cllr Barry Mayhew, Independent, New Town, took no part in the vote as he has a close connection with the school as a fund-raiser.

Plans have been submitted for a new main entrance foyer, canopy and reception office at St Philip’s Catholic Primary School, in Uckfield.

A single-storey, flat-roofed extension of 45 sq m would be built out from an existing lobby, reception office and SEN room.

The present reception would become a resources/group room.

A design and access statement included with the planning application before Wealden Council says the school’s existing pedestrian and vehicle access off the High Street would remain unchanged by the proposal as would existing parking and staff numbers.
