Proposals before Wealden Council include demolishing 22 flats at Uplands and building four two-storey blocks which would include nine three-bedroom houses, six two-bedroom houses, two two-bedroom maisonettes and four one-bedroom flats with associated landscape works.

There would also be changes to the vehicular access route from Cambridge Way, including widening the access road.

The planning application has been submitted by Orbit South Housing and follows a display of the proposals in May.

The aim is to provide “new affordable housing to meet an identified housing need” and a design statement concludes: “There is overwhelming support for the existing dated, uninspiring and unsustainable building to be removed.

“This proposal offers a considerable improvement on the street scene as well as offering much improved and sustainable affordable accommodation.”
