Where to shop in Uckfield in June
Red, white and blue is the theme in shop windows in the run up to this, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.
Make sure you have a look in the High Street window of Ryan’s of Uckfield because there is a miniature street party scene with cakes, sandwiches and even slices of cucumber hand-made by Rosie Ryan.
Inside a new range of ice-creams from Marshfarm Dairy and sorbets from Purbeck Ice Cream are proving popular.
Daryl Ryan is pictured here holding waffle cones and the strawberry flavour which is a favourite with customers.
From next week Ryan’s are planning to have weekly tea parties from 2pm to 3pm each Wednesday.
Daryl and Rosie will be bringing out the bone china and offering a pot of tea with either fruit scone, jam and cream or a piece of Victoria sponge.
Sales up thanks to jubilee celebrations
Sales have been up by 35% at the Bargain Store at 94B in Uckfield High Street thanks to jubilee celebrations.
“It’s better than Christmas,” said owner Chris Sharp who has been busily re-ordering stocks of bunting, flags, table cloths, plates and napkins.
He is expecting tomorrow to be a busy day too as people make last minute preparations for their celebrations to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
Slug pellets available at All Sorts
Everything for the jubilee street party is also available at All Sorts at 144 High Street and lots of gardening products too including weed killer, ant killer, slug pellets, fly spray and tomato food.
New in is grass seed which is selling well.
Olympic tickets available at Co-operative Travel
The next big event for the country is the Olympic Games and Co-operative Travel in Uckfield has tickets available for a variety of events with hotel accommodation and underground tickets or bus tickets included in the price.
Prices start at £79. The cheaper accommodation is at Heathrow which has easy access to events but the best is at The Hamble in the Olympic Park.
Tickets are available for sports from archery and athletics, through cycling and gymnastics to swimming and wrestling. They are also available for opening and closing ceremonies.

New range of linen shirts and vests to arrive at Pilgrim
A new fashion brand, Ella Moda, is expected to arrive soon at the life-style boutique Pilgrim.
Stock will include linen shirts and vests, “quite casual but smart”, according to shop owner Mercedes Hall.
Special beer deals at Noble Wines
At Noble Wines special deals at the moment include eight-pack 500ml bottles of Stella Cidre at £9.99 instead of £14.99.
Polish beers Zywiec and Tyskie, both 5.6% alcohol, in 500ml cans are available at five for £5.
The normal price would be around £1.40 a can.
Courtyard Coffee Shop to launch summer menu
A new summer menu is to be launched at the Courtyard Coffee Shop.
Owner Esra Baser says there will be an open buffet with hot and cold dishes – as much as you like for £5.95.
There will also be new milk shakes and a different range of juices. Popular fresh cakes and fare on the current menu will still be available too.
Valuation day today at George Moss jewellers
There’s a valuation day at George Moss jewellers today so you will be welcome to call in if you have any items of jewellery you would like valued.
Manager Leigh Jones said a professional valuer would be there all day.
If you call in with your jewellery you will be able to pick it up later with a written valuation for a small charge.
Time for a new computer?
When you are looking for a new computer it’s worth calling in at PC Home and Office where they claim prices are as good as online, if not better.

New salads at Hartfields Produce Store
New salads are on the menu at Hartfields Produce Store in Uckfield with a choice of seating available either upstairs or outside, where you can eat.
Everything is home-made at Hartfields whether it is the chicken caesar dressing or the rosemary croutons.
Fruit smoothies are available too in flavours such as mango, pineapple and banana or strawberry and banana.
Light breakfasts are offered there too such as bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches or scrambled egg on toast.
Tres Joli is on the move
Tres Joli is moving from its shop at 21A High Street, Uckfield, to share premises with sister-business Joli Couture at 75 High Street.
Owner of both shops Kay Bevan is hoping to move by the middle of July.
In the meantime there is a 50% off sale on all lingerie, nightwear and Sea Folly swimwear stock at Tres Joli.
Clothing, jewellery and gift-wear will continue to be sold after the move but lingerie won’t be available immediately.
“We need to decide how best to use the space first,” said Kay.
New summer stock continues to arrive at Joli Couture including both occasion and day-wear.
Revival of the Market Hall
Pets Corner is due to open in the Market Hall at Bell Walk tomorrow.
Trevor Brown who runs Sew n Sew with Lydia Prentice said it was great to see the revival of the Market Hall.
His business is booming at the moment – particularly sales of quality ribbon and sewing boxes.
Trevor said: “People are buying sewing boxes for children. I think they see them as something that can be kept and used for years to come.”
From peanut butter to Oreo – milkshakes on offer at Appetite
Jars of sweets are now on display in the Uckfield takeaway Appetite in Church Street and it is possible to choose your favourites and buy the amount that suits you.
Ice-cream milkshakes are also available in lots of different flavours such as Oreo, Skittle and even peanut butter and jam.
Salad lunches are on offer with everything home-made.
Good deals on kayaks
There are some good deals on kayaks at PipeDreams at the moment as some stock remains from last year.
“The prices are very good compared with what they are going to be,” said David Hobbs who runs the business with his wife Julie.
More ranges of scooter continue to arrive at prices ranging from £50 to £250.
“Last year we certainly wouldn’t have considered stocking them at £250 but people are now looking for the better stunt scooters,” David said.
The ideal place for using the scooters is the Uckfield skate park which is proving very popular and attracting people from far afield.
David said: “It has a reputation for being a good park, particularly because of the smooth quality of the concrete.”
PipeDreams will be open over the Bank Holidays on Monday and Tuesday so you will be welcome to call in on either day.
