Here's a date to remember
Did you know that today is the start of national Welly Week or that it is World Book Day on Thursday 4th or that Alice in Wonderland will be in cinemas from March 5?
We all have some dates fixed firmly in our minds but the one you really must remember this month is Mothers Day on Sunday the 14th. There are some really tastly menus available locally so why not take Mum out and save on the washing up!
Another big date for my family is today, Monday, March 1, because at long last Minnie, our Yorkshire Terrier puppy, is allowed to go out, writes Uckfield News Personal Shopper Julie Brice.
Having said last month that Minnie's pet tags were made in anticipation I hadn’t quite expected we would wait this long.
It turned out that the vet recommended we delayed giving her jabs as she was so little and I am glad we did.
Everyone in the vets could hear her squealing! And that was at ten and 12 weeks so what would she have been like at eight weeks? Poor Minnie.
The girls are both very much looking forward to walking her to school, time will tell what Minnie thinks.
Where did February go? Half term was supposed to be lazy days and no rushing around for us but that didn’t seem to happen at all. Even with an inset day on the Monday I still felt I needed another week off to recover!
Anyway I have just enjoyed a wander around Uckfield and here are some of the things that have caught my eye:
We can look forward to the opening soon of the new Chilli Pepper café and bistro, in the parade of shops set back from the High Street between Uckfield Electrics and the Post Office, and also of the new Domino's Pizza in the former Wine Rack.
I also see a shop, a couple of doors away from Limelight, that has been empty for about two years might revert to residential use. Apparently it started out as a house but was sub-divided in Victorian times. Read more here.
Craft Buddies has merged with the dolls house shop from Bell Walk and now offers everything for the budding collector of items for the miniature home as well as craft work.
Luna are serving a lunch pizza menu Monday to Friday, midday to 5pm, at £5 each or £7.50 with a side salad, and with a great selection to choose from its definitely worth a try.
Harpers dry cleaning have an offer running of four articles cleaned for £12 which seems really good value to me.
PipeDreams now have their ski sale on with some really good discounts so if you are thinking of taking to the slopes next year now might be a good time to get yourselves kitted out.
We are running a fund-raising event at Daisy's school and I had been looking on the internet to get an idea of prices for the supplies needed. With prices in hand I went into town and was really pleased to find All Sorts, Sweet and the Discount Store a great help and a lot cheaper than the web.
I was interested to read about the Back on Track Clinic encouraging other therapists contact them as they build a centre of complementary health at their Mill Lane premises. They now have a profile on the Uckfield News site and you can read more about their plans here.
If you would like a profile for your business on the site please contact Cathy Watson on 01825 760102 or email cathy@cwassoc.co.uk.
Tip of the month - I know I haven’t managed one every month but I do have one for you today.
A very good friend of mine went to Stoke for half term to visit her mum and dad. She came home with a story that impressed me.
Apparently the local council has issued all older people with a small bell with instructions to attach them to their purses so if someone tries to take them they would hear the bell tinkle.
I thought that was a really good idea and have purchased a small tinkling bell from Sew 'n Sew for the princely sum of 12p and attached it to my purse, I expect to hear lots of tinkling at the checkouts!
