Sheila steps down as chair of trustees at Uckfield volunteer centre
Sheila Charlesworth is stepping down as chair of trustees at the Uckfield Volunteer and Information Centre.
Sheila, who has also been acting as centre manager since a cut in funding led to a redundancy there, will continue to be involved in its work but taking a back seat within the office.
In a newsletter Sheila said she would still help out when shifts needed covering and with the sale of Christmas Cards for Good Causes when they arrived in October but she was looking forward to having “a bit more time in the garden”.
A new chair of trustees will be elected at the centre’s annual meeting on Friday, September 28, which is also the date of the next community lunch which is held at the Luxford Centre.
Ann Montier has agreed to take the lead within the office from September.
Sheila said: “May I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me these last years since I took over the reins of UVIC when our funding took a downturn and we had to make our manager redundant.
“It was a steep learning curve, but one which I feel very strongly about - the benefit of volunteering that can be so beneficial to people, both to those volunteering, and to those being helped by the volunteers.”
She added: “I can talk for hours about volunteering – it is all I know, having been a volunteer all my life. Following in my parents’ footsteps no doubt.”
Also stepping down as a centre trustee is Tim Clark, one of its longest serving members.
