Preferred option for Uckfield plan

A “preferred option” for the redevelopment of Uckfield town centre has emerged.

Holy Cross School would be re-built on a different town centre site, if the scheme were to go ahead.

The new school would be designed in such a way that it could be easily expanded to accommodate a two-form entry.

The preferred option for development is shown in two phases. Phase two would include the new school, additional employment and shops space and a possible new road.

On published maps, a new crossing of the River Uck is shown, to the west of the current town bridge.

However, it is noted that the inclusion of new roads on the drawings “does not imply that this is the preferred option”.

A report is going to tomorrow’s meeting of East Sussex County Council’s Cabinet. You can read the officers’ report to members at: http://tiny.cc/3Mkv9.

East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council and Uckfield Town Council have worked together over the future development of the town centre. The three councils, plus East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, own significant areas of land in the heart of Uckfield.
