Police use CCTV to identify problem youths in Uckfield

Police used CCTV footage to identify youths causing problems in the area of McDonalds and Tesco in Uckfield and were then able to issue notices banning them from the area.

Town councillors were told about the action at a meeting last week as a report on crime figures was presented.

PC Cathy Codling and PCSO Nikki Johnson told how in a two-week period there were 13 thefts, one incident of domestic violence, four threats/malicious communications, one common assault, one criminal damage incidents, one sex offence, one counterfeit note incident and one burglary.

They also told how Browns Lane, Eastbourne Road, the High Street and London Road had all been targeted for speeding motorists. Six parking tickets were issued especially outside takeaway shops and Luxford Field.

Victoria Pleasure Ground, Hempstead Meadows and West Park had all been patrolled as part of ‘Operation Blitz’.

The police reported that people have been signed up for a Community Messaging system and a new text number has been established to enable people to report ‘Drink Drivers’ more quickly.
