Warning to Uckfield commuters

Commuters using Uckfield railway station have been warned they could be fined if they leave their cars parked in the High Street.

A sign from Sussex Police has gone up at the station entrance pointing out parking in the High Street is limited to one hour and that a £30 fixed penalty is imposed for those caught over-staying./images/2011_april/parking_notice.jpg

Parking for commuters is a controversial issue in Uckfield, Buxted and other stations along the line.

The introduction of new trains on the line has brought about a boom in the use of services, leading to pressure on parking spaces.

Uckfield's station car park has 16 official spaces.

Attempts have been made for some years to get the old station yard opened for parking. It is thought this would provide 50 spaces.

In the meantime, streets around the station are used by commuters, including the Bellbrook Business Park, while others use the long-term spaces at the Luxford Field.

*In recent weeks, Tesco has limited parking on its site to two hours (previously three hours) while the owners of the car park at Bell Walk, near the bus station, have begun to enforce time limits.
