Uckfield volunteers are presented with community awards
Seven people were presented with community awards last week by the Uckfield Volunteer and Information Centre.
The centre was celebrating 21 years of serving the community and presented the awards at a lunch-time ceremony.
The winners were Dee Johnson, on behalf of Holy Cross Church, Rose Willcox for work with the Housebound Club; Norman Mayers, Royal British Legion Uckfield Branch; June Leaman, Age Concern (Uckfield branch); Alison Ledward, National Childbirth Trust; Don Freeman, for his years of service as a driver for the Friends of Beechgrove unit and Sheila Cooper for her support in so many ways of neighbours and friends.
The Mayor of Uckfield, Cllr John Carvey presented each winner with a Patio Rose and a framed certificate showing details of the nominations made for them by friends and groups they are involved with.
A presentation was also made to Sheila Charlesworth who has been associated with the centre since its inception in 1991 and who will be stepping down as chair of trustees at the annual general meeting in September.
More than 60 people attended the community lunch which was held in the Luxford Centre. A birthday cake was made for the occasion.
Thanks to Ron Hill for the photographs. Sheila Charlesworth is pictured above with the Mayor of Uckfield, Cllr John Carvey, and the community award winners can be seen below.
