New walking group welcomes Tortoises and Hares

Tortoises and Hares are being welcomed at a new walking group in Uckfield.

The tortoises are people who are not quite so mobile and favour a slower, shorter walk, and the hares are those happy to stride out more energetically for a longer time.

The group has been set up by the Manor Park and Hempstead Fields Residents’ Association and members meet once each week.

The walks alternate between Monday afternoon one week and then Wednesday morning the following week. More days may be included as the weather improves and if there is demand.

Those that need to use a wheelchair are welcome are welcome to other walkers who are happy to give the carer a hand if they can.

The association also runs a surgery car service and now has a car in its fleet that is adapted to carry wheelchair users to their local GP practice. The service is open to anyone living on Manor Park and Hempstead Fields.

Paul Sparks, association chairman said: “These are two more examples of how our caring community has joined forces together to ensure that absolutely everyone is included in the Residents’ Association’s activities. We are extremely proud of our volunteers and all that they do.”

For more information about the association please contact secretary Peter Griggs on mphfres@gmail.com or chairman Paul Sparks on 01825 764287.
