He takes over from Graham Baldwin who thanked members for their support over the past year when more than £28,000 was raised and donated to charities and good causes.
The club says in a press release that none of this would have been possible without the “continued amazing support of the people of Uckfield and surounding villages”.
It says: “Uckfield Lions would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the people who have supported our fund-raising events.”
Mr Phillips thanked members and club officers for their efforts over the past year and looked forward to their continued support. He said this year marks 100 years of Lions in this country and he hopes the Uckfield Club will hold an event to celebrate the occasion.
The handover ceremony was held at the Ringles Cross pub, Uckfield.
Much of the money raised by Uckfield Lions is through established events such as an Easter egg raffle, Lions Fun Day in June, a 10K fun run – which this year is on July 10 – monthly quiz nights at the Ringles Cross pub on the first Tuesday of each month, and, in December a supermarket raffle and Lions Santa Sleigh.
The Lions Second Hand Bookshop in Olives Yard, off the High Street, also raises money throughout the year and is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
Uckfield Lions are always looking for new members. For more information about the club or, if you are interested in becoming a member, visit the Lions Club website, or phone the membership chairman Graham Baldwin on 01323 483311.
