New managers at The Ringles Cross pub, in Uckfield, are Connor Gardner and Laura Coley.
The couple, who took over a fortnight ago, are enjoying settling in and looking for ways to get more involved in the community.
One of their plans is to hold monthly Sunday acoustic sessions, with every other one dedicated to fund-raising to help others. Regulars are listing their favourite charities which could be chosen to benefit.
Connor said he already knows of bands who would like to take part to get the ball rolling. “A different charity could benefit each time,” he added.
Connor is the son of Shem and Liz Gardner, who took over the pub in April 2017 while continuing to run The Hope Inn at Newhaven. Their first manager at The Ringles was Lauren Pinkney who has moved on now.
Connor has worked with his parents at The Hope for the past six years and is pleased to have a challenge of his own to share with his partner Laura.
Laura is new to the pub trade but familiar with staff training and customer service because of her experience as a supervisor in the retail trade.
The couple are living at the Ringles Cross and enjoy relaxing and chatting with locals even when they are not working behind the bar.
Connor said: “People have been very helpful in many ways, such as one neighbour lending us a wheelbarrow when we brought in logs to make our first fires this week.”
The pub is continuing to serve locally-sourced and freshly-cooked food at lunchtime, and in the evenings, and a Sunday roast at the weekend.
A temporary chef from The Hope is helping out while Ringles Cross chef Michael recovers from a motorcycle accident where he broke his collar bone.
The Ringles is a family-friendly pub and people are welcome to bring in dogs too.
Connor and Laura are looking ahead to next summer and making more of the pub garden where children can already enjoy play equipment while their parents look on. They hope to get a bouncy castle to add to the fun.
