New look for Uckfield Picture House resurrects an old one

The Picture House, Uckfield, has started the new year with a fresh look which harks back to 1916 when it was first built.

Paint covering the lower brickwork was stripped back in December and now the decorative bricks from 100 years ago can be seen again.

Here’s how the Picture House looked before the work began:

As 2016 came to an end The Picture House posted on Facebook: “For a whole century our lovely building has sat at the top of the high street doing what it does, often without fanfare or fuss. Other local towns lost their cinemas, video rental shops came and went and somehow we endure.

“Largely because of a loyal and special audience, endless re-investment and through much of the 80’s, sheer bloody mindedness.”
