New firefighter joins crew at Uckfield

A new firefighter has joined the crew at Uckfield Fire Station. Crew manager Steve Ramsey welcomes Damian Binge as he reports here on activity at the station over the past fortnight.fire_modern_engine

Calls have included one to an out-of-control bonfire which set light to trees, a chimney fire at a pub and a cat rescue.

Steve writes:

Saturday, October 29: The crew attended a tree alight at Maynards Green and an automatic fire alarm in Buxted and Halland.

Sunday, October 30:  Cat stuck up a tree and a trip out to Sheffield Park for a Fire alarm.

Monday, October 31: A fire at County Hall, Lewes, took one crew from Uckfield that morning followed by a call to a bonfire in Framfield.

Tuesday, November 1: A fire alarm was attended in the Heathfield area.

Wednesday, November 2: Another standby move saw a crew sent to Brighton to cover whilst they attended an incident.

Saturday, November 5: Our favourite night saw an out-of-control bonfire set light to a row of trees that the crew dealt with before it spread.

Monday, November 7: A false alarm in Newick and then Nutley were the calls for the day.

Tuesday, November 8: A chimney fire challenged the crews at a local public house.

Saturday, November 12: Crew dealt with a lift rescue due to a lift fault.

Monday, November 14: Crews attended a fire alarm in Forest Row.

Uckfield Fire station would also like to welcome Damian Binge to the crew. Damian passed his initial recruits course and has been with Uckfield retained service for a few weeks now.

After a popular campaign last year Uckfield Fire Station will be delivering Christmas presents again on Christmas Eve. Details of this will be on the Uckfield Fire Station facebook page soon or please email Steven.Ramsey@esfrs.org, for further details.

During the past fortnight Uckfield firefighters have also attended calls to fire alarms sounding in Uckfield, Heathfield, Buxted and Mayfield.

Home safety visits, designed to raise awareness of safety matters in the home, are always available across the local communities. These visits include the fitting of free smoke alarms where required and are undertaken by firefighters from your local fire station.
