Fresh, home-cooked farmhouse food takes priority on a new menu at The Grove at Blackboys, which is now known as The Grove Farmhouse Cafe.
The business has scaled back its village shop to make room for more dining tables following feedback from customers. They can now seat up to 40 people comfortably when previously they had room for a maximum 30.
The menu has been chosen to reflect the farm setting of The Grove and includes hearty farmhouse hotpot specials served with a chunk of artisan bread. For dessert you’ll find pudding with custard, different puddings each day.
During the summer the cafe will be offering its own farmhouse ploughman’s boards.
Emma Doherty who runs the business with husband Andrew and their two friends Andrew and Sarah Wright, said: “There will, of course, still be some of our all-time favourites – flapjacks, Grove breakfasts, and sandwiches to enjoy.”
The Dohertys and Wrights who have run The Grove for the past four years decided it was time to review their offering, seeing what has proved most popular, and what their customers would like to happen next.
Sarah said: “We’re in a lovely farm building and came to the conclusion we should concentrate on a farmhouse menu. We have also introduced a loyalty card scheme.”
Ethical and fair trade products are stocked in a smaller shop area, including quality chocolates and biscuits along with a selection of wines and local beers. All chosen in response to demand.
The two couples are hoping to organise more evening events too. They have planning permission to open for two evenings a week and hope to make more use of that, and the space they have available, to host additional functions.
Themed evening dining has always proved popular at The Grove and dates coming up include:
- Burns Night, Saturday, January 28
- Romantic Valentines Night, Saturday, February 11
- Steak Night, Saturday, March 11.
