Uckfield Town Council has decided to install the latest CCTV technology in town and use a system that will have close links with Sussex Police control room.
The council has been exploring the latest technologies, costs and options, and has chosen to join the Sussex CCTV Partnership led by Sussex Police.
Their decision was made in secret – following exclusion of members of the press and public – at a meeting of full council on Monday, February 20.
A council press release says the benefits of the new system include the ability to upgrade it in line with any partnership development and changes in technology.
The decision was announced today, days after a break-in at the Uckfield High Street premises of newsagent KC News.
Shop owner Kevin Comar said on Tuesday that police had told him the CCTV wasn’t working and so the break-in wouldn’t have been recorded outside the shop. Read more about the break-in here: Burglars raid Uckfield High Street shop
