More than 100 men attend Uckfield Lions cancer screening event

More than 100 men attended a prostate cancer screening event organised by Uckfield Lions on Saturday.

This was the first time the Lions had provided the service, in association with PCaSO, a prostate cancer support organisation.

The screening was undertaken, at the Belmont Centre, by qualified phlebotomists and the men completed a questionnaire and had blood samples taken.

Those will be tested in a hospital by a consultant urologist with the results being returned in about a fortnight.

Advice will be given to the patient using a red, amber, green traffic light system and in certain situations they will be encouraged to visit their medical practice for further advice.

The Prostate Specific Antigen test is not always widely used in medical practices and so Uckfield Lions and PCaSO were pleased to offer the service.

The Lions said statistics show that one in two men will have a prostate problem at some time in their life.
