The collections were made at Tesco on Friday, December 9 and 11, when £759.98 was raised. Additional collections at Waitrose in Heathfield on Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, raised another £619.51.
Richard Long, chairman of the Marie Curie Uckfield Fund-raising group said the total equates to nearly 69 hours of Marie Curie one-to-one care for patients in their darkest hours.
He added: “The collections have been an amazing achievement, only made possible by volunteers giving up two hours of their time to assist with the appeal. To that end I cannot thank the volunteers enough who collected on behalf of Marie Curie.”
• Marie Curie will be collecting again in March for their Great Daffodil Appeal. If any local business would like to have a collection box on their premises for about six weeks please contact Richard by email at email@example.com.
He would also like to hear from anybody who would like to give two hours to assist with a store or street collection then.
