Maria Mann has overcome many challenges since opening a beauty salon in Uckfield nine years ago and was thrilled to have her efforts recognised when she was named the town’s Businesswoman of the Year.
The accolade came at business awards organised last month by Uckfield Chamber of Commerce.
Maria said: “Winning that award was massive to me, it meant more than anything else.”
She needed determination right from the start because she opened The Beauty Spot, in New Town, in the middle of a recession.
Undaunted she has constantly invested in improving the premises, and in training, so that she could offer treatments previously unavailable in Uckfield.
The search for new treatments continues and now, Maria says, her business is more a Medispa, offering advanced cosmetic treatments, than a salon.
Procedures offered include Microblading, a semi-permanent tattoo which helps create fuller-looking eyebrows; Mesotherapy using injections or a machine to lift and firm the skin; Dermaplaning, a procedure using a surgical scalpel to gently scrape off any dead skin cells and fine, vellus, hair; Dermarolling where microneedles are rolled over the skin to generate new collagen and skin tissue.
Other procedures include chemical peels, where liquids are brushed onto the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new ones, and Guinot and Caci facials.
Next, Maria is planning to offer Plasma Pen lifting, a non-invasive skin lifting treatment. She is about to go on a course to learn about that.
She said: “I am really pleased with the way the business is going and I’m very lucky to have a good team around me. We are really busy these days – even the quiet days are busy.”
