Major spring clean effort coming up in Wealden

A major clean-up is being organised within Wealden over three days in March.

The district council is supporting Keep Britain Tidy through the Great Wealden Spring Clean 2017 which will take place from Friday to Sunday, March 3 to 5.great-british-spring-clean

Groups and individuals are being encouraged to ‘do their bit’ and help clear up litter blighting the countryside, towns and villages.

The council is providing a range of support including free volunteer clean-up kits, on a first-come-first-served basis, to groups that add their event to the official website.

Special edition waste sacks will be distributed from the council’s offices in Hailsham and from libraries across the district – and a waste collection service will be provided for all the litter picked during the campaign.

Community groups are being asked to sign-up and organise a clean up. Anyone can register an event. No group is too big to too small.

Campaign posters, litter picking kits, collection of waste and waste sacks can all be requested by emailing PR@wealden.gov.uk, or telephone 01323 443268.

Groups must provide email confirmation of event registration or be visible on the official website to use the services.

*Lime Aid volunteers will be working in Lime Tree Avenue on Saturday (February 11) to carry out the annual task of trimming new shoots at the base of lime trees and generally tidying up.

They will be joined by Brighter Uckfield members and anyone else who would like to help is welcome to go along from 9am to 1pm.
