Lottery funds support play activities in Maresfield

Active play and football sessions have started in Maresfield thanks to funding from the National Lottery.

New Parklands Residents’ Association applied for and secured the money which means all the activities and bookings are free for children to attend, writes Vanessa Thomas.

Association member Laura Stevens-Smith said: “We wanted to organise an event for children that covered a range of ages, encouraging them to be outside and active and that was fun for the kids and of course also free.

“We are pleased that the lottery agreed to fund the activities and it’s wonderful to see children from community playing together in this way.”

Sunny weather contributed to high spirits at the event and while the parents kept an eye on proceedings from picnic blankets the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves both on and off the field.

The football players, many sporting their favourite football team colours, were boisterous and determined to show off their skills and plenty of goals were scored.

For the next 13 weeks there will be football training every Wednesday from 6-7.30pm and active play from 4-5.30pm, at the Parklands play area, Maresfield.
