Lorry driver reports attempted robbery at Nutley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a heavy goods vehicle driver reported an attempted robbery on the A22 at Nutley.Police sign

The driver was heading south through the village at about 4am on Tuesday, January 12, when he claims a red Mercedes van was in close pursuit. Police have released the information today Monday, January 25..

The lorry driver told police he saw a passenger waving an object measuring approximately 40cm in length out of the window, before the vehicle attempted to overtake him.

He swerved, causing the van to drop back, and then triggered the speed camera.

The incident was reported to police when the driver stopped at a service station at Golden Cross, near Hailsham, a few minutes later.

PC Kevin Tyler said: “No items were taken as the driver did not stop, but he was left shocked by the ordeal.

“We would like to speak to anybody who witnessed the two vehicles or has CCTV that covers the A22 between Wych Cross and Uckfield.”
