Work progresses on the railway station car park in Uckfield.

Kerb stones go in as Uckfield station car park takes shape

Kerb stones have been going in at the railway station car park being built in Uckfield which is due to open next month.

Mid-July has been given by Network Rail as the opening date. The car park, opposite the railway station, will have 174 spaces and cycle storage too.

It will be open 24 hours a day with full CCTV coverage and lighting that will be dimmed when nobody is in the car park at night that will turn up again as somebody walks in.

This will be the town’s first pay car park and is designed to help free spaces on the Luxford Field car park for shoppers.

Wealden District Council is to bring in tighter time restrictions on the Luxford car park once the new station car park opens. There will be short stay spaces for three hour periods and mid-stay places available for ten hours, an hour longer than the nine hours originally envisaged.
