Jemima organises get-together for mums in Uckfield

A young mum-of-twins who made friends in Uckfield through a free app online is inviting other mums to a get-together in town next month.

Jemima Keys, 27, who is married to James, and whose twins Rupert and Violet are 20-months-old has also launched a support group for mums of twins.

Jemima said she was terrified when she became pregnant with the twins. Her family lived miles away and her husband worked long hours but she imagined she would soon have supportive ‘mum-friends’.

Hard to make friends

She said: “So I joined NCT, I took the classes, I went to the prenatal groups. When my children were born I dragged us all out come rain or shine to the playgroups and I hung around at the park. However I found it unbelievably hard to make any friends.

“During this time I became very isolated. It’s not easy getting out of the house with twins and I soon developed post natal depression.

“When my twins were one-year-old we moved to Uckfield. I had no confidence when I arrived here and didn’t expect things to be any different.”

Game changer

But, Jemima said, an incredible movement was about to kick off in Uckfield that would be a total game changer for her.

“I saw a poster for ‘Mush’ and turned a corner. Mush is like mum dating. Not mums looking for love, but mums looking for other mums for playdates and support.”

Jemima said that through the free app she created a profile to find other mums just like her in Uckfield.

“I can find mums with kids the same age, or mums who also share my love of a cheeky glass of wine.

Support network

“I can even find other twin mums. I’ve met up with lots of lovely women through Mush and it has really changed my outlook. I love Uckfield, because I discovered Mush here and I have a support network now.”

She said the app was enabling women in Uckfield to be pro-active in tackling loneliness in motherhood and preventing depression.

“Mums are meeting in Uckfield parks and cafes, joining forces to meet at Barney’s and getting together for relaxing walks through Ashdown Forest – and they all met through Mush.”

Free event

Now Jemima is holding a free event on September 13, at The Alma Arms, in Framfield Road, Uckfield, for mums to go and socialise and pick up some information about the app.

The ‘Play-date in the Pub’ will start at 1pm and run until 3pm.

Jemima’s Uckfield Twin Club can be found on Facebook and on Mush.
