Uckfield triathlete Jamie Bedwell has his sights set on competing in the Paris Olympics in 2024 and a video shouts out his intentions as his training gets under way.
Twenty-year-old Jamie has returned from an eight-day training camp in Monte Gordo, Portugal, and is firing on all cylinders having recovered from a setback after Christmas when the bursa – which acts as a cushion between bone and soft tissue – in his hip top became inflamed.
Jamie said: “I have been on a rehabilitation programme since having an MRI scan but I’m glad to say I’m enjoying getting back to running again and cannot wait to get started this year in May when I will be competing in the British University Games triathlon.”
Triathlon Motivation was filmed over two days in Eastbourne, by Paul Manser and Boris Jansch, and shows Jamie swimming in the sea, and cycling and running over the South Downs and Beachy Head.
Jamie said: “The film aims to show briefly what it looks like to train as an elite athlete and I had a great time making it.
“It was produced excellently and will hopefully really motivate people to get out and exercise as the season and good weather approaches.”
Looking ahead Jamie says he will be returning to his home race in Eastbourne where it is easy for local people to watch him.
His aim is to take his first title there having previously finished second and third in the last two years.
He told Uckfield News: “The race is set to be packed with top athletes from countries all around the world so is a great opportunity for people to come and see some world-class racing so close by.”
After that Jamie will be stepping up into his first year in the U23 Senior Elite Male British racing and will compete at three events in the British Super-Series in Cardiff, Blenheim, and London.
He said: “If anybody wants to keep up to date with everything I’m doing with triathlon they can follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter via @JbTriathlete.”
