James Anderson has resigned as an Uckfield town councillor.
His decision means there is a vacancy on the council for the North Ward.
If ten electors from North Ward write to the Returning Officer by May 9 requesting an election, a poll will be held not later than July 13.
The town council can co-opt a replacement if ten electors from North Ward do not come forward to request a by-election.
Mr Anderson was first elected to the council in May 2015 as a Trust Independent for North Ward, where there are six seats, polling 1,030 votes.
He became chairman of the Plans Committee.
On July 19, 2017, the council held an extraordinary meeting of the full council to consider Cllr Anderson’s non-attendance for a period of six months.
The council resolved to conduct the discussions in private.
The council voted to accept the reasons for the non-attendance given by Cllr Anderson and an extension was granted for up to three months.
Since then he has only been to one meeting – a plans committee.
A report by the council to the annual town meeting, held on April 10, showed that in the last year Mr Anderson was listed as the councillor attending the fewest meetings – one, a plans committee.
The address to write to requesting a poll is:
Charles F Lant, Returning Officer, The Elections Office, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 2AX.
• The other councillors for North Ward are Louise Eastwood, Donna French, Jackie Love, Chris Macve and Paul Sparks.
