Ian Smith was re-elected Uckfield Town Mayor last night (Monday, May 19). It is his second year of office.
Cllr Jeremy Hallett was re-elected deputy mayor.
Cllr Smith, who lives at Ridgewood, said it was an honour to be mayor and a position he held with great pride.
He said: “My first year has been an enlightening experience as I have witnessed first hand the tremendous community spirit and variety of volunteers organisations that give our town its ‘je ne sais quoi’.
“People never fail to comment to me about how Uckfield is full of enjoyment for living.”
Cllr Smith said his second year of office would give him an opportunity to build on knowledge gained in the previous 12 months.
He would make good use of opportunities to keep Uckfield “in its rightful position of being the best town in Wealden”.
“By the time this new term of office comes to an end the town itself will have begun to take on a fresh, new look. I look forward to playing a part in ensuring those changes are introduced smoothly,” he said.
He told fellow town councillors that he would look to them to provide the inspiration, initiatives and vision that would ensure the town continued to adapt to the changing world that surrounds it and make the town that both young and old feel at ease in.
