Children at Holy Cross Primary School, Uckfield, have been able to enter an art competition thanks to the response from the community following an appeal for materials.
Headteacher Mrs Cathy Dart launched the appeal last month to enable pupils to take part in the Diocese of Chichester Year of the Bible competition. She said the response was incredible.
Mrs Dart said: “I thought we might get a couple of items handed in but the response was overwhelming. We were amazed to receive so many donations from the people and businesses of Uckfield. We got everything we needed and more.”
Mrs Dart, pupils and teachers at Holy Cross said a huge thank you to everyone who donated the much needed art items.
Mrs Dart added: “Thank you so much to everyone who donated and who also passed on our plea to others they thought might help. These art materials will be well used now and in the future.
“Thanks to the generosity of our community Holy Cross pupils will be able to create many more masterpieces.”
The Year of the Bible art competition is organised by the Diocese of Chichester and is open to all schools from early years to sixth form who come under the Diocesan umbrella.
The primary school challenge, which is split into KS1 and KS2, is for children to create artwork depicting either Bible stories or characters, a favourite verse/passage or the big story of the Bible.
