The Highlands Inn, Uckfield, and The Laughing Fish, Isfield, are among pubs nominated by MP Nus Ghani in a parliamentary Pub Chef of the Year competition.
The Highlands Inn was praised for its “especially good lamb shank dish, with fantastic chocolate brownies for dessert”.
The Wealden MP said it had a large seating area and a relaxed family atmosphere and it was easy to see why it was so popular with Wealden residents who were asked to choose their favourite pubs for food, drink and hospitality. Two chefs, Harry Merrett and Garry Harnblow, were presented with awards for serving “an amazing menu”.
The Wealden MP said The Laughing Fish was renowned locally for the excellent pies on offer and it was always busy with locals eating and drinking. She presented chefs Henry Brooks and Richard Harvey with certificates.
The Laughing Fish also offers a book swap service and a corner for knitting.
Awards were also presented to The Griffin at Fletching and The Hare and Hounds, Framfield.
