Growing Uckfield firm takes on new staff

Two new members of staff have joined the growing Uckfield commercial property firm Oldfield Smith & Co, Chartered Surveyors.

Paul White, a chartered surveyor and registered valuer has joined the expanding professional services department of the practice, while Sue Collett joins as office manager.

There are now five members in the team including directors Richard Oldfield and Bernard Smith and financial controller Elizabeth Douglas-Smith.

Nationwide

Bernard said he and Richard were delighted Paul and Sue had joined them soon after the business moved to new premises in River Way, Uckfield, and as it continues expanding nationwide.

The next step being planned is the opening of a satellite office in the Gatwick Diamond area, where the practice has secured a number of new instructions.

Bernard has known Paul, who lives in Kent, since they both worked for NatWest in the property department at Crawley, and they qualified together at Reading University.

Management

Paul left the bank and joined Chestertons where he looked after commercial and residential property management in London.

From there he spent 13 years with public sector regeneration agencies, most recently the Homes and Communities Agency.

Bernard said: “Paul brings to Oldfield Smith & Co an wealth of experience in urban regeneration, covering housing, employment space, public realm and major infrastructure works. He also dovetails seamlessly with our ethical policies, sharing the same values the business was built on.

High standards

He added: “We are a firm of chartered surveyors, regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, so have to abide by very high standards technically, and it is a core principle that we also work ethically.”

Paul said he was looking forward to working with landlords and tenants, dealing with rent reviews, lease renewals, valuations and some management as well.

He added: “I will be getting back to some of the things I used to do and it is exciting to come here at this time when the practice has moved into new premises and is growing quickly.  I have been impressed by the range of work the practice is doing, both in terms of the complexity and geographical spread.”

Outstanding

Sue Collett has joined Oldfield Smith from another surveying practice where she had worked for 20 years.

Bernard said: “She is outstanding and a critical part of what we do since much of our time is spent out on the road. Sue is able to run the business when we are not in the office and has a tremendous understanding of how the practice works.  She is able to deal professionally with enquiries and is a real team player.”
