Oldfield Smith and Co now have an office in The Beehive, Gatwick.

The company is operating countrywide now and, with a growing number of instructions in the Gatwick Diamond and central London areas, this is a natural location for their expansion.

Co-director Bernard Smith said: “We have known we wanted to do this for some time. It was just about picking the right moment.  This is it, and it is working very well.”

He added Oldfield Smith would always have its headquarters in Uckfield. Currently their team of six, two of them part-timers, are based at Suite D, Eden House in The Office Village, River Way which was bought by them to provide a permanent head office in the town.

The business is in its fifth year and in the last few months has completed work in the Borders, Wales and across the country, from Cornwall and Devon in the South-West, to Essex and Suffolk.

As well as commercial agency, the practice has expanded into consultancy for the cell phone industry and expert witness work relating to property-based litigation.

Oldfield Smith is also completing valuation work on a wide variety of commercial sites and expanding its property management portfolio. “We are now managing property in three counties and there is considerable scope for further growth,” said Bernard.

He added they could offer clients a whole package from finding property to converting it, letting and managing it, and, if the time is right, disposing of it.

Bernard said the agency side of the business had performed particularly strongly, with stock moving rapidly through their hands.  He added that one of the greatest challenges was finding new stock to replace that which has been sold and let.

He attributes much of their success to the website which he designed with his fellow director, Richard Oldfield to be easy for clients to use.  The website is updated constantly and Bernard said it worked well because there were no barriers to access, people didn’t need to register to obtain full details of available properties.

The team still prides itself on operating to the highest professional and ethical standards and are regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).  They remain committed to building personal links built with clients.

“We still publish our mobile numbers so clients can contact us directly at any time. It is important our clients know we are accessible,” said Bernard.
