Planning permission has been given for the former Bloomsbury flower shop at 79-81 Uckfield High Street to be used as a yoga studio.
The application was submitted by Uckfield Yoga which is run by Grace Annand and which currently holds classes at different venues around town.
Grace says her plan is to hold three classes a day, one in the morning, one at lunchtime and one in the evening initially, possibly more if it goes well.
She hopes at least 12 people and a maximum of 24 would attend each class. She would be the only member of staff.
She does not plan to alter the premises either internally or externally.
A Wealden District Council officer’s report says the town has an existing transport network to support the change of use. Existing traffic movements would be reduced by being concentrated in one place, and some existing users would be able to walk to the venue.
The report says: “The proposal is considered to provide a use that would add to the vitality of the town centre as well as being in a sustainable location.”
Opening hours are given as, Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm, Saturday, 9am to 6pm, and Sunday and Bank Holiday 10am to 4pm.
The planning officer concludes: “The proposed change of use is considered to be an appropriate development that would provide a community service promoting health and well-being in a sustainably located unit that is currently empty that would add to the vitality of the high street.”
